“Family Gathering” initiates “The Ties That Bind” series, celebrating my unique heritage and life connections. Through painting, collage, mark-making, and texture, I explore the common thread between loved ones and artistic materials. I am often inspired by my grandparents, particularly my grandmother’s influence, seen in patterns like the polka dots. By incorporating book pages I am paying homage to my father and his love of reading. The colours in my work often reflect my children, husband, and my mother, whose favourite colour is pink. The recurring lines in my work signify the correlations between these relationships encapsulating “The Ties That Bind” and serve as a transition in each new painting.
