Description
The name of this mug comes from the effect known as hare’s fur on the glaze. The rutile in this glaze normally makes it a pale yellow amber; however, the wood ash and soda it was blasted with in the wood kiln reacted with the rutile to create the dense white and purple streaks and striations known to potters as hare’s fur. This effect is elusive and rare, and always makes me feel a sense of wonder and amazement when I manage to achieve it!
