“My favourite part of quilting – I like all of quilting except maybe cutting…. But my favourite part is the actual quilting. For me that includes thread choice, machine or new-to-me hand sewing, and design. For thread, I love all the different weights and lusters. Even the weird unknowable Sally Ann thread can be interesting. I love deciding whether to matchstick quilt, thread paint, use the walking foot, or free motion – or hand with embroidery stitches? But the chosen quilt design is such a huge part of the overall aesthetic – it’s the tops. This is a new piece I’m working on and I chose clear (invisible) thread for the first time and decided to barely quilt it (these are 1 inch squares). Even the lack of quilting is a statement.”
