Umbra is a flat serving tray made from walnut, with pale sapwood running along the outer edges and darker heartwood through the centre.
A thin line of recycled skateboard veneer crosses the surface, joined by three small circular inlays cut from the same reclaimed material. The colour is used sparingly, leaving the walnut grain to carry most of the design.
The underside is carved back from the perimeter. When the tray is set down, the edges sit above the surface and cast a dark shadow underneath, giving the piece its name and its floating appearance.
