ERIN STELMASCHUK
about the artist
"Since childhood I have concentrated most of my time on creating art. My very first studio was a child's small getaway, behind the big chair in the corner of the living room. I sat criss cross and worked on tiny paper mache creations and painted pieces to be given away as gifts.
Growing up in the lush environment of rural northern Alberta, this is where my inspiration will always have its roots. But moving to Southern Alberta 17 years ago, there was instantly a new source to be taken in... one day driving home I suddenly understood the term "big sky" as I felt like I was under a glass dome that stretched as far as I could see in every direction. Also being closer to the mountains there is a very strong pull for me there, always fuelling my creative energy.
My studio is now my haven. It is a separate building in our yard, that I can quickly get to when inspiration strikes, but also spend hours and hours at while still being in close proximity to my family."
