The Stories Behind Oksana's New Landscape Paintings

It's always nice to know what the artist was inspired by when painting a piece, or where their thoughts were at that moment. We are so pleased to have a little story behind each of Oksana Alekseeva's new arrivals at h squared gallery.

It came quickly, darker than I usually go - less open sky, more hush. It felt like stepping into a place I’d almost forgotten, or maybe dreamed once and couldn’t quite place again. There’s something of a fairytale here. Not the sweet kind, but the older, wilder ones where light is a rare and precious, and the woods are listening - Oksana Alekseeva on Laced In Stillness, 30" x 24".

'Moments Before', 36" x 48"

A painting about that quiet in-between — the moment just before everything shifts.
Before the words are spoken.
Before the tide turns.
Before the air changes.
It’s about stillness, expectancy, and the quiet kind of courage it takes to keep walking toward what you can’t yet see.

'As The Wind Takes Me', 30" x 36"

I’m always drawn to that feeling of moment - not the loud kind, but something more subtle.
A shift in the air, a moment that slips just out of reach, a quiet pull toward something beyond what we can name.
That’s what often brings me to the canvas.
Not a place, but a sensation.
The need to hold onto fleeting - light, wind, stillness - before it disappears.

'Salt and Sky', 36" x 40"

There’s a kind of joy in a day like this- when the waves are full of light, the wind is alive, and the air smells like salt and and sun-warmed seaweed.
It’s that wide-open feeling, where everything moves and sparkles, and you just breathe a little easier.
That’s what I wanted to hold onto while painting this piece.

'Beyond The Last Wave', 30" x 36"

It was inspired by that quite moment at the end of the day - when the light softens, the waves begin to slow, and everything starts to settle.
This isn’t the wild sea of midday, but something gentler. The last wave before the calm. The hush before evening fully arrives.
I painted it as a way to hold on to that feeling just a little longer.

'Wildflowers In The Sun', 30" x 30"

This is my favourite time of year—the air is full of warmth and the sweet scent of blooms. Everything is coming to life, and I find endless inspiration in it all.

'Stillness Between Us', 30" x 24"

There’s a quiet kind of magic that lives in the spaces we share with nature — a hush between the trees, a mirror of sky on water, a breath held between two hearts.
Is a reflection of those moments when everything slows down, and the world feels wide open and close all at once.
