I spend a lot of time searching for new artists for h squared. We are looking for artists who compliment those we already represent and fill a void that our collectors are looking for. Coming across Kate Cleland's work was like stumbling across fresh air after running alongside rush hour traffic. Kate's clean, simplistic pieces cut away all the white noise that inundate our everyday lives and offer the viewer a blunt, birds eye view of the interplay of raw land and human-made structures. Her work brings a sense of calm and meditation. Simplistic and bold in colour, you get lost in her paintings for hours. To create pieces like this is not easy. The exposed raw canvas that acts as the contrast to Kate's bold colours means that one slip of the brush the canvas must be discarded and she must begin again.
